Do you want to start a blog and gain personal freedom? Looking for a career change or maybe just a better financial situation? Do you have a blog? If you do, that’s fantastic.
Frankly, I love having my business. One that I can spend hours on and not feel like its a chore.
If you don’t have a blog or website but have been thinking about it, let me share with you how I got started with mine.
Back in 2009 I bought my first domain name. I actually built a website for my church. I didn’t really know what I was doing but I learned a little html and css along the way. It was hard work but fun. I even took an online class to get me up to speed fast. Then in 2012 I bought a domain name for my personal use. Problem was I wasn’t sure what exactly I was going to do with it. I didn’t have the mindset, expectations, budget or even goals. Basically I had no plan except that I wanted a blog.
Over the next couple of years I started to recognize that I was burning out in the corporate world.
In 2015 I revisited the idea of having my own business which would include a website or blog. This time I was serious; I did have the mindset, a few vague goals but no budget and still no plan. I joined online business forums, took online seminars and read just about everything I could about ways to make a living online.
In 2016, I built an ecommerce store selling dog products. While I had a blast building the e-commerce store, my heart wasn’t in it. I realized taking orders and shipping product wasn’t what I wanted to do.
I learned my first lesson.
To be successful, you’ve got to have the right “mindset” for what you do. I call it “mindset”. Its “the drive” that keeps you going when you first start something; its “the motivation” that keeps you going when you face challenges. When you have the right “mindset” or drive because you have a desired, defined goal then you can accomplish amazing things!
My second lesson is this.
You have to be interested, even passionate about what you do because that feeds your mindset, your drive, your motivation. And it ultimately affects your success.
I’ve learned so much since I started this journey. If I wanted an ecommerce store now where I could sell products I believe I could absolutely make it happen. But I found what I really wanted to do. That is design, write and teach. I have my blog, websites, my business.
Now I have the right mindset, i’m much happier and I love what I’m doing.
I hope that my story will inspire you to think about what you want to do and where you want to be. You only need to find that mindset, goal etc. Then get out there and do it. What have you got to lose?
