You don’t have to be a social media expert to have a good Pinterest strategy. It’s a no-brainer that I create a pin on Pinterest for every blog post, but it’s more than justing pinning a pin. In fact, I’ve discovered an efficient and effective Pinterest marketing strategy using multiple pins.
UPDATE: I’ve done this for wordpress sites, but it won’t work on sites like squarespace, wix or weebly. Still if you want to test multiple pins there are other methods available for those platforms, and it’s well worth testing what kind of images, illustrations and graphics resonate with your viewers.
Strategy #1- Multiple Pins
Like any blogger, a social media design strategy is critical to find and engage with my audience. So a little research on how to get the most engagement from my Pinterest pins turned up several useful ideas. Some I was already implementing; namely to create 3 – 5 pins for each post; by pining several pins with slight changes in title, pin description and pin graphics, I could determine which engaged the best and learn what my viewers respond to.
Multiple pins give me feedback on what attracts attention. My biggest issue was managing and scheduling my pins. I found a great solution and now use that process to implement my Pinterest marketing strategy with multiple pins.
Strategy #2 Pin Scheduling
Part one of my Pinterest marketing strategy is to use a scheduler like Tailwind to schedule my pins and re-pin them at a later date. Tailwind is easy to use and provides analytics on how my pins are performing. Tailwind helps me post pins to multiple boards and create pin descriptions using keywords and hashtags to gain views.
Strategy #3 Pin hiding
In addition, I found a perfect solution for managing multiple pins thanks to an article by Lyndsey of EverydayLyndsey. she covered how to hide multiple pins within a blog article. Basically, I add the extra pins from my media library to the end of my article; then I add a <div style=”display: none;”> in front of the <img> and a </div> tag at the end. Plus, when I upload the image I add in the custom URL pointing to the exact post it will be used on. That saves time later on when I’m scheduling. Tailwind and most schedulers will default to the generic blog URL but if the image has the exact URL as a custom URL, then the scheduler will pick that up. So it looks like
“<div style=”display: none;”><a href=”https://yourdomain.com/post-title”><img class=”” title=”some-title” src=”path-to-image” alt=”tag” width=”” height=””></a><a href…><img2…></a><a href><img3…></a></div>”
Just use what’s inside the external quotes.
You get the gist. Add the link to the post, the imgs and the div tags to hide them.
Now instead of uploading each pin directly to Tailwind or Pinterest directly, I save my pins into my blog article. This solves the problem of storing pins locally on my laptop so that I can schedule. Since all my blog images are stored “in the cloud” my pin images are included. My process is pretty simple, easy to organize and build content.
Putting it together
1. Research keywords/hashtags for the blog post and pins.
2. Write my content.
3. Create graphics, titles and pin description for 3 – 5 pins
4. Pick one pin as the featured image.
5. Load the other pins into the end of the blog article and hide them.
6. Upload and schedule pins.
7. Monitor analytics to determine what pins work best.
There is an extra benefit to this process, part of creating visual content for my post involves also creating OG graph images. These are by default 1200×630 pixel which is a size acceptable to both Facebook and Instagram. (Note Instagram prefers 1080×1080 standard but can use 1200×630). This means that I can go one step further if I cho0se to by also creating an extra OG sized graphic or even a standard Instagram image and hide those using the same procedure.
All hidden images are not seen when reading the post; however, they can be seen using Pinterest pin it chrome extensions, Tailwind scheduling, and chrome extensions. Pretty slick.
